C'est Mardi

Surging Storm, by Storm Creek
Birth Year:
Jesse Cruz

Why We Bought This Horse

  • C’est Mardi is a 4 YO Kentucky-bred filly and we claimed her at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.
  • She has been a productive filly with 10 starts and 3 wins to go along with over $50,000 in purse winnings.   She ran impressively in the race that we claimed her and has shown the ability to win on turf or dirt.
  • For the Wasabi Ventures Stables safety net, we will put her value at $12,500 as a straight broodmare prospect.  This is a figure we will put on her if we still have her at the end of her racing career.
  • The horse will be training under Jesse Cruz at Monmouth Park.
  • If we still have the horse racing at the end of the meet, our plan will be to move the horse to Charles Town for the winter meet.

Tidbits from the Pedigree

C'Est Mardi is a 4yo daughter of the mighty Tiznow, out of graded stakes producer, Surging Storm. As a Keeneland September yearling, she sold for $115,000. Of the 10 career starts under her belt, C'Est Mardi has won on 3 different occasions and finished in the top 3 in 6 starts, with success routing on both dirt and turf. To date, she has earned over $51,000 in purses and is sure to rack up more with her talent.

Her sire, Tiznow, is best known for being the only two-time winner of the G1 Breeders' Cup Classic. In 15 career starts, he amassed over $6.4M in earnings with 8 wins, only finishing out of the trifecta on one occasion. Tiznow has proven himself to be a powerhouse stallion as well, with over $90M in progeny earnings, including no less than 15 Grade 1 winners and 44 graded stakes winners. As a broodmare sire, Tiznow counts the recent G1 Belmont and Travers star Tiz the Law among his many other stakes-winning progeny.

C'Est Mardi's first dam, Surging Storm, is by Storm Creek (himself by the breed-shaping Storm Cat). While she was unraced herself, she has proven herself to be an accomplished broodmare, with 4 winners from 5 foals to race. Her most accomplished foal is the Eurosilver filly, Neversaidiwassweet, who broke her maiden going a mile on the turf at Hollywood Park before taking the G3 Miesque Stakes in her very next start. Although her time on the track was somewhat brief, she still managed to earn $86,820 before concluding her career. Another daughter by Officer, Ainsley, was stakes-placed on 4 separate occasions on 4 different tracks. By the time Ainsley was retired, she had earned $169,895 in 27 career starts on both dirt and turf, with 7 wins and 14 finishes in the top 3.Her second dam, Saratoga Surge, by Saratoga Six (himself by Alydar) was also unraced on the track but similarly proved herself to be an admirable broodmare. From her 7 winners, 3 of them had blacktype. The filly Elusive Sara, by Elusive Quality, was Saratoga Surge's best progeny, with a win in the Goldfinch Stakes at age 3. Two other daughters were stakes-placed, including Sudden Sensation (in the Hoist Her Flag Stakes) and Paradise Princess (in the Inaugural Stakes). Saratoga Surge is also the granddam of stakes-winners Suddenly Silver and Zaino Boyz through her daughters Sudden Sensation and Elusive Sara, respectively.
