Why We Bought This Horse

1/30/24:Ebb Tide foaled a healthy colt, who we have nicknamed "Everlasting"

  • Ebb Tide was covered on February 26, 2023, by Dialed In and checked in and confirmed in foal on March 13, 2023.   Our anticipation is that this foal will be Maryland-bred.
  • This is a 2023-2024 Individual Foal Offering and is subject to the WVS Individual Foal Program Addendum to the Wasabi Ventures Stables Thoroughbred Management Agreement.
  •   Highlights of the program:
    • Fixed Price on the Offering - No Ongoing Bills
    • Limited Exposure - Like WVS Racing Programs, there is no chance for Future Expenses. If the Foal offering loses money, WVS absorbs those costs
    • Finite Time - The Foal Offering will be liquidated at the time of his/her weaning from the mare, so you know when an offering ends.  Because you are not buying the mare, you have a finite time period of commitment (e.g. 6 to 18 months)
    • Reduced Risk - WVS will only open a Foal Offering once a mare has checked in foal to the chosen stallion
    • Perpetual Breeders Bonuses - Even after the foal is sold, a Club member can continue to earn breeding bonuses for the racing life of the horse.
    • You can watch a video about this program by visiting here.

The BASE PRICE of this foal is $38,600

  • Mare Lease $7,000
  • Stallion Fee - $9,000
  • Vanning Expense - $2,000
  • Boarding and Sales Fee Estimate - $18,000
  • Vet Estimate - $2,000
  • Registration Fees (Jockey Club and State Fees) - $600

When planning the first mating for a young broodmare, picking a proven stallion tends to be our favored tactic because it gives the breeder a better take on the mare’s potential, rather than breeding her to a young stallion that might himself be a flop and thus give no real clue as to what the mare herself might be able to accomplish. His proven track record makes Dialed In an attractive value sire, and he should be a perfect match for the recently-acquired Ebb Tide in her first trip to the breeding shed.
With 22 stakes winners to his credit, including 8 graded winners (three of those being G1 winners), Dialed In’s percentages are solid as it is, and with big, well-bred crops still in the pipeline after his early success at a lower stud fee, there is even more upside left in the coming seasons (he has 96 2YOs coming to the races in 2023). His AEI of 1.39 is well above his mates’ CI of 1.16, demonstrating how much he moves his mares up, and reiterating why we think he’s a good fit for a young mare, generally.
He also fits Ebb Tide specifically for a few reasons. First and foremost, Ebb Tide is a 3/4-sister to a mare named Gabeira (by Ebb Tide’s sire Medaglia d’Oro, and a half-sister to Ebb Tide’s dam), and Gabeira is the dam of stakes winner Erase by Dialed In — we think that bodes very well for this pairing. Erase is one of just 7 foals to race by Dialed In out of MDO mares (4 of them are winners), so that’s a black-type winner despite a very small sample size. The broader cross of A.P. Indy-line stallions (Dialed In being by A.P. Indy’s Horse of the Year son Mineshaft) with MDO mares is good for a “B+” on TrueNicks and has produced G1W Rachel’s Valentina and a pair of G3Ws by Tapit. Ebb Tide’s dam is also a full-sister to the dam of multiple G1W and leading sire Constitution (by Tapit) and G3W Jacaranda (by Congrats, another son of A.P. Indy out of a Mr. Prospector mare like both Mineshaft and Tapit’s own sire Pulpit). All of which points to this being a successful cross.
Additionally, Dialed In has several stakes winners (including G1Ws Defunded and Get Her Number) from mares featuring Storm Bird in their pedigree (both through his son Storm Cat and otherwise), and Ebb Tide’s dam is out of a mare by Storm Bird’s son Ocean Crest — so the foal from this pairing will be inbred 4×5 to that champion European 2YO.
A medium-sized, well-made horse who cost $475,000 as a yearling, Dialed In should prove a nice like-to-like physical pairing with the very attractive, well-balanced Ebb Tide, and we can’t wait to see this first foal out of her in 2024!
