Updates on Jimmy Creed - Crystal Avalanche Foal

  • Crystal Avalanche was covered on March 10, 2021, by Jimmy Creed and checked in and confirmed in foal on March 26, 2021.   Our anticipation is that this foal will be Maryland-bred.
  • This is a 2021 Individual Foal Offering and is subject to the WVS Individual Foal Program Addendum to the Wasabi Ventures Stables Thoroughbred Management Agreement
  •   Highlights of the program:
    • Fixed Price on the Offering - No Ongoing Bills
    • Limited Exposure - Like WVS Racing Programs, there is no chance for Future Expenses. If the Foal offering loses money, WVS absorbs those costs
    • Finite Time - The Foal Offering will be liquidated at the time of his/her weaning from the mare, so you know when an offering ends.  Because you are not buying the mare, you have a finite time period of commitment (e.g. 6 to 18 months)
    • Reduced Risk - WVS will only open a Foal Offering once a mare has checked in foal to the chosen stallion
    • Perpetual Breeders Bonuses - Even after the foal is sold, a Club member can continue to earn breeding bonuses for the racing life of the horse.
    • You can watch a video about this program by visiting here.

The BASE PRICE of this foal is $31,300

  • Mare Lease $2,750
  • Stallion Fee - $7,950
  • Vanning Expense - $1,500
  • Boarding Fee Estimate - $17,000
  • Vet Estimate - $1,500
  • Registration Fees (Jockey Club and State Fees) - $600

Why We Bought This Horse

Jimmy Creed at Spendthrift Farm offers excellent value in 2021, and there’s much to recommend him for Crystal Avalanche this spring.

Perhaps most importantly, Jimmy Creed is a son of Distorted Humor, whose son Brethren sired the 2020 G3 Royal Delta Stakes winner Cookie Dough, a half-sister to Crystal Avalanche (and there’s also a full-brother to Cookie Dough named Poe who is a stakes-placed winner and has earned over $100k).  So this cross has already worked repeatedly with Crystal Avalanche’s family, and Crystal Avalanche's Jimmy Creed foal will be quite closely related to both Cookie Dough and Poe.

Because Crystal Avalanche is by Dialed In, this mating also takes advantage of the very strong nick so far between Jimmy Creed and A.P. Indy-line mares (G2W King Jack, two other SWs, and NINE(!) more black-type earners from only 33 starters bred on this cross — plus 30 of those 33 are winners!).

The foal from this mating will also be inbred 4×4 to Dixieland Band, which is a pattern that has produced 4.2% stakes winners from 96 foals so far, including a G3W (compared to the breed average of 2.4% stakes winners/foals).  And this cross also has some nice symmetry in that Jimmy Creed is by a stallion bred on the Mr. Prospector/Danzig cross and out of a Dixieland Band-line mare, just like Crystal Avalanche’s dam Brook’s Valentine.

All of which complements Jimmy Creed’s success so far as a stallion:  he now has four crops of racing age, not including his 2021 2YOs, and from those 259 foals of racing age, his 14 stakes winners is good for 5.4% of his foals, and he sports a 1.30 AEI compared to just a 1.01 CI, meaning he moves his mares way up.  His four graded winners include the aforementioned King Jack, who earned a 111 Beyer taking the G2 Gallant Bob at 6 furlongs on dirt, plus the likes of Casa Creed, who won the G2 National Museum of Racing HOF Stakes going a mile on turf and was G1-placed last year at 5, as was Kanthaka (a dual-surface sprinter).  After starting out at $12,500 for his first season, Jimmy Creed’s subsequent crops were conceived at fees down to as low as $5,000 advertised, but his early success earned him a bump to $15,000 in 2018 when he covered 164 mares (his increase in mares-bred led the country that season) — a crop which is 2YO in 2021 — and $20,000 for 2019 when he covered 138 mares.

Physically, Jimmy Creed is a beautifully balanced, medium-sized horse with plenty of mass and muscle who fits a wide range of mares, and his quicker, dirt-oriented ability should be a perfect match for Crystal Avalanche.
