The 2020 Jump Start - Waveland filly is part of our 2021-2022 Yearling Program
She is already in training in Virginia and will be Virginia-certified to go along with her Pennsylvania-bred certification.
The plan for her is to eventually move to the barn of Mark Salvaggio in Pennsylvania to maximize all of the state-bred bonus opportunities.
This Pennsylvania-foaled homebred filly is from the last crop of the perennial leading Mid-Atlantic sire Jump Start. A G2 winning 2YO during an abbreviated racing career for the historic Overbrook Farm and trainer D. Wayne Lukas, Jump Start has sired upwards of 50 stakes winners so far in his stud career, highlighted by G1 winner Rail Trip and six more South American G1 winners, plus G2 winners Prayer For Relief, Pants on Fire, Miss Behaviour, Sir Whimsey, Jump On In, Sue's Fortune, etc. His Average Earnings Index (1.43 at last report) was also higher than his mares' Comparable Index of 1.29, meaning that he moves his mares up, which only about a third of stallions do.
This filly is out of the winning Woodman mare Waveland, a two-time winner at 3YO for Team Valor, who has produced seven foals of racing age, all of which have raced and six of which have won. Her foals are led by Sailor's Revenge, a stakes winner of $477,543, and two additional six-figure earners in Jason's Angel and Majestic Woody. Waveland's four highest-earning foals are all sired by A.P. Indy-line stallions like Jump Start, and she has also produced this filly's now-3YO full-sister Wave Jumper, who broke her maiden for Wasabi in her most recent race.
A February foal, this filly is a big, powerful, correct individual with lovely balance who looks like she could be ready to reach the races significantly earlier than her full-sister, and hopefully, she can be a reminder of just what Pennsylvania lost with the death of Jump Start shortly after she was conceived!
