Saucily is an unraced daughter of the leading classic sire Curlin, who has sired the likes of Champions Malathaat, Elite Power, Good Magic, Idiomatic, Cody’s Wish, Nest, Vino Rosso, Stellar Wind, etc, etc. He has sired three winners on the Breeders’ Cup card each of the last two years, and no other stallion has done it even once.
So far his daughters have produced 19 stakes winners, led by multiple graded stakes winner and multiple G1-placed Big Invasion and multiple graded stakes winner General Jim.
Saucily is the first foal out of her dam Lesley May, a daughter of Tapit who was a two-time winner on dirt going a mile at 3YO. Lesley May’s second foal is a 2021 colt by Into Mischief who sold for $300,000 as a yearling, followed by a 2022 colt by Speightstown that Mike Ryan purchased for $485,000 as a Saratoga yearling. Lesley May was bred to Street Sense for 2024.
Saucily’s second dam, Captivating, was the Outstanding Broodmare in Canada in 2013 and produced the Canadian HOTY Uncaptured (also a multiple graded stakes winner in the USA at 2YO), as well as multiple stakes winner Dancing Raven — in turn the dam of multiple stakes winner Breeze Rider. Another daughter of Captivating produced 2023 G2W Interstatedaydream (a $1.4 million purchase by Mike Repole at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Night of the Stars Sale) plus multiple Canadian classic-placed Emmeline, while yet another daughter is the dam of stakes winner Crescentcitypretty. This is also the female family of multiple G1W Curalina and the brilliant Expressman.
Very much a typical Tapit shape, Saucily also incorporates the classic Curlin substance, and should fit a wide range of stallions on both pedigree and physical.
Wasabi acquired Saucily for $30,000 at the 2023 Keeneland November Sale and she will be bred for the first time in 2024.
