Why We Bought This Horse

This is a private purchase transaction.

  • This Kentucky-bred Kitten's Joy filly has a lovely conformation.  Because it was a private transaction from a trusted party, we know the horse is completely sound and .  She is out of a Indian Charie mare (Spirit Line) that has already produced black type placers.
  • Vibrant Spirit has been off in form this year and we attribute all of that to her not liking the extreme heat of South Florida.   We think a new scenery will help her training.  She has 2 life time wins and still has a third condition remaining.   She is a turf specialist and will benefit from the racing opportunities in the fall in the Mid Atlantic.
  • When Vibrant Spirit ends her racing career with us at the end of 2019, our plan is to enter her into our broodmare program.
  • The horse will be in training in Maryland with Jesse Cruz.

Tidbits from the Pedigree

Pedigree thoughts from Housatonic Bloodstock

Vibrant Spirit is one of six foals to run and win out of her winning dam Spirit Line, and five of those six (including Vibrant Spirit) are full-siblings by this country's best turf sire, Kitten's Joy.  The best of Vibrant Spirit's siblings is Sassy Kitten, a stakes winner on dirt and turf who earned $232,790 during her career, while Great Cross won five races and $130,458.  Still to come are a 2-year-old full-sister (as yet unnamed) and another yearling filly by Kitten's Joy, as well.  An Eclipse Champion Turf Horse on the track, Kitten's Joy is already the sire of 94 stakes winners, good for 6.5% of his foals of racing age, including 2019 G1 winner Henley's Joy.  Vibrant Spirit's dam, Spirit Line, was a winner of $105,644 during her own racing career, and is a daughter of the exceptional sire Indian Charlie (also responsible for the likes of Uncle Mo), while Spirit Line's granddam, Bemissed, was a Grade 1-winning 2-year-old by British Triple Crown winner Nijinsky II, who went on to produce the Epsom Oaks-G1 winner Jet Ski Lady.   Although Vibrant Spirit's pedigree doesn't contain the inbreeding to Roberto that has been so effective for Kitten's Joy, she is inbred 5x5 to the foundation mare Special through the closely-related pair of Sadler's Wells and Nureyev -- and these two factors will be well-worth exploiting when the time comes to send her to the breeding shed, where daughters of Kitten's Joy have already produced no fewer than seven stakes winners.
